So I stumbled upon a really talented guy that I want to share with you. His name is Rod Thomas but he goes by Bright Light Bright Light. So far every song I’ve heard of his on this debut disc has been pretty amazing. I’ve listened several times (about 20 total over the last week) and I can say it’s my favorite disc this year. I know…I love Madonna as next as the next queen…but this guy sings music that I wish the ladies I love would sing. I’ve sang in the car to Madonna, Lady Gaga, Kylie and Robyn just about every day of my adult life so I’m an authority on the topic. And every time I sing along I think how marvelous it would be if a guy sang songs like they sing so it wouldn’t be so silly for me to sing along and pretend I was them. I could sing along to Rob’s songs all day and I discover a little bit of myself each time I hear him sing. The lyrics…are amazing. Sometimes, simple is really best. He reminds me of when I first discovered how brilliant the lyrics Alanis Morrisette sings. Discovering his disc has been so much fun. I sing along to just about every song and I run to them daily…especially Disco Moment.
The song is about two people in a relationship…one of which is clearly more dramatic than the other about everything. In the video, which you can see below, you see him asking if they postpone their argument to the next day…just do anything..but not that again. He says he’s open throughout the song…which is so loving and caring. I really love it. And I love him.
His disc is only available via download, and trust me I’ve looked for the CD all over the place. He’s so open that he placed a copy of the linear notes from his disc on his website so if you downloaded it somewhere (even if illegally) you can get the insert. That’s pretty cool of him.
So check out Bright Light Bright Light…aka Rod Thomas. He’s easy on the ears. And he’s VERY easy on the eyes. I’ve watched this video over and over and I think I have a mad crush on him. But then I always fall in love with people who share themselves openly and brilliantly and so lovingly as he does. Check him out and let me know what you think. But really, if you don’t like him, don’t tell me anything about it…I’m pretty sure I don’t want to hear it…now go have your disco moment.
BTW…just found an awesome acoustic version of Disco Moment. Must listen!!
